take a break, will ya?

We keep talking in circles here (and have been for years) about the frustrations and questions that the social media/internet world raises for us in our daily lives.   I won't rehash the issues, but it did occur to me today that since so many of you feel the same weariness and pressures, I should just invite you to join me each month for my week-long break (or fast, if you prefer.)

I usually take the second-ish full week of the month, from Sunday to the next Sunday evening, away from all forms of media.  No blogs or Instagram, no Facebook, no email, no using Google to chase down rabbit trails, no TV or movies.  That's my goal, but I'm not hyper-rigid about it.  If the family wants to go to a movie, I'm in.  Or if there's a family situation going on and I need to use email, I do.  The idea is to stay away from screens as much as possible and give my mind and spirit time to recalibrate.

As hard as it is to stop and take this time out, I can tell you that I feel so much more balanced with my online life and that quiet week every month is such a gift for all of us.  I feel like a new person after a week away and I'm always full of new ideas and recommitment to my priorities.

So, if you'd like, please join me!  (This month, I'm in the middle of a story writing course, so I will need to be online at least once a day for that - and that only!- which should be a challenge, but like I said, I'm not going for rigidity here.)  Let me know in the comments if you think you'll be joining.  It would be great to know you're out there living and resting and escaping from the screens with me!

~ Lastly,  Happy Mother's Day to all the women I know.

Remember, the world needs more mothers,

and I'm not just talking about biology here.

So much love.
