“Why do women want to dress like men when they’re fortunate enough to be women? Why lose femininity, which is one of our greatest charms? We get more accomplished by being charming than we would be flaunting around in pants and smoking. I’m very fond of men. I think they are wonderful creatures. I love them dearly. But I don’t want to look like one. When women gave up their long skirts, they made a grave error…And what a multitude of sins you could cover up with a long skirt if you had piano legs." ~Tasha Tudor
Oh Tasha. I love her more every year. Now that I'm forty, I'm appreciating the appeal of long skirts more and more. I love the swish of fabric around my ankles as I go about doing mundane things like laundry or putting away groceries; I love the excuse to wear cute shoes that are not sneakers; I love that little edge of lace peeking out from under my hem. I appreciate the freedom of a great pair of jeans too, don't get me wrong, but I do so love being a girl.
