*Working hard to use what we have: the early apples are dropping.
*Peeled, sliced, free of worms: this winter's applesauce-to-be, headed for the freezer.
*Tree fort improvements in progress.
*Back door visitor. She likes a bit of oats or maybe an apple slice, if you don't mind.
Monday, getting back to old rhythms. Today it was pitch-black when we went out to exercise. I worried we might run into the skunk who lives near the frog pond. (He doesn't like surprise visits, but he does lope along in front of us on the trail now and then.) We talked extra loud and stamped our feet until we were past his home. Later, we came across a man and a woman loading a trailer in the dark. She was still in her pajamas and she wouldn't lift her face to look at us. Something about it made me feel sad, like we'd stumbled into a secret tragedy unfolding in the dark. By the time we were back at the car the sun was coming up, but that feels like a long, long time ago. I'm heading to bed early tonight.
